Stop43 Campaign Wins! Clause 43 was dropped from the Digital Economy Bill.

Last week the controversial clause 43 on orphan works and collective licensing was dropped from the Digital Economy Bill. The Government had proposed an amendment to leave the clause out after strong opposition from inside and outside Parliament.

Thank you so much to everyone who lobbied and contacted MPs. It was a grassroots campaign, but gained support from the NUJ and other organisations representing photographers.

There are still issues on orphan works to be resolved in the future, but now we have a chance to provide better input into any future legislation. The campaign shows we have strength, organisation, determination and ingenuity. We should be listened to in future.
